Do you ever have those days that your brain is just in a fog and you can not pull out of it? Or those weeks that are going to be crazy busy and you know you are going to need that little bit of extra focus? Well I don't know about you, but I sure have all of that... and some! That is what led me to create Brain Boost! Herbs that help with blood flow in the brain and promote focus. I worked on this blend for about 6 months and the final formula joined the Leaf Logic collection in June of 2012 and has been helping me stay focused and productive all these years! This isn't the magic elixir of life, I didn't unlock an undiscovered phenomena! I just created a blend that focuses on herbs that have been used for thousands of years and made a tea that tastes good so you can enjoy drinking it!
What is in it? Herbs in this blend include Ginger, Rooibos, Ginkgo leaf, Hawthorn leaf and flower, Oat Tops, Nettle Leaf, Red Clover, Rosemary, Gotukola, and Cornflowers. Let's talk for a bit about each ingredient and why this combination is such a powerful brain tonic.
What is the flavor profile of this blend? This blend was difficult to create due to the very potent herbs that are necessary for effective brain boosting. But in the end, this blend has a fantastic herbaceous taste with the rosemary and ginger being the predominate ingredients to step out.
How do I brew it? Being an herbal blend, it wont get bitter if you steep it too long. In fact, it is best steeped for at least 15 minutes. The longer you allow the herbs to infuse in the water, the more medicinal properties can be drawn out into the tea. My preferred way to brew this blend is as a long infusion. Using a quart mason jar or a large French press, I put my tea leaves at the bottom (1-2 teaspoons of loose leaf per 8oz of water), cover with boiling water, place a lid on the container, let it steep 4+ hours, strain it out and enjoy! After it has brewed several hours, I either drink it at room temp or I fill half of a tea cup with the room temp infusion and then fill the other half with boiling water to have a nice warm cup of tea! But over the summer I even pour it over ice sometimes to help cool me down!
How often should I drink it? Well, as often as you can remember! Haha This is one of my moms favorite blends and she loves to say, "I love the Brain Boost tea, I just have to remember to drink it!" Hahaha Oh mom, you are so silly! No but in all seriousness, it is good to drink throughout the day, but like with all herbals I would advise to enjoy daily, but after a month it is a good idea to take a week off. But that is why I always encourage a wellness lifestyle where you are mindful of what your body needs and alternate other teas and herbs to help have a good balance! Consider blends like Sleep Ease, Mood Lift, Peaceful Dreams, and Breathe Deep, Soothing Lemon Wellness, and Mint Meadow to alternate into your routine.
