The powerhouse duo of Turmeric and Ginger is the perfect way to give your body a hug in a mug! Goldenmilk is basically a combination of Turmeric and Ginger (preferably brewed as a tea) with the addition of milk to make it a smooth and delicious drink that is widely consumed for many health benefits. To make this amazing beverage all you need to do is brew your Turmeric Ginger tea and add any fat to help with the absorption of these amazing healing roots! Pour that into your tea and you have the perfect Goldenmilk! Its THAT easy!! In the picture I show some various options that people have used to boost their Goldenmilk. You can use milk, cream, coconut oil, or butter. I have heard of people doing a combination of these as well. My personal favorite is to use cream because of the rich and smooth texture it brings to the tea and it also stirs in very well. Some of the other options have a tendency to separate from the tea, therefore you have to stir a lot more or shake it before you drink it. I have also found a lot of research about fresh ground peppercorns being wildly beneficial for helping the body absorb the properties in turmeric. Whether you agree or disagree, give it a try! It adds a nice spicy kick to your goldenmilk!!
TO BREW:
Bring your water to a boil
Place 1 teaspoon of Turmeric Ginger tea per 8 ounces of water in the bottom of a heat safe vessel
Pour boiling water over your herbs
Let it steep 3-5 minutes. With herbal teas, the longer you let the tea steep in the water, the more medicinal properties can be drawn out into the water. I like to give my herbal teas at least 15 minutes and sometimes even up to 4 hours.
Strain the herb from the water - using a simple fine mesh strainer or any fun tea brewing gadgets on the market
Add your cream to the tea and there you have a perfect Goldenmilk!
BUT WAIT, do not toss those herbs that you have used because you can double and triple brew ... meaning you can start back over with step 3 and add more boiling water and re-steep the same herbs again!
But Why Goldenmilk? Well, its due to the amazing properties found in Ginger & Turmeric. There is an incredible amount of research that you can dig up about why you should be consuming either or both of these roots. I will be diving into more in depth research in a future post about each of these ingredients!
